SSSGC Indonesia: Seva Flood Response in Aceh Tamiang, Phase Two, carried out by SSSGC Indonesia
As a form of compassion and humanitarian response to the flash flood disaster that affected the Aceh Tamiang region, SSSGC Indonesia carried out an emergency humanitarian response activity for the affected communities from 10–12 December 2025, centered at Masjid Al-Ikhlas and Yonif 111 Karma Bhakti, Kuala Simpang, as part of its ongoing seva (selfless service) initiatives.
This activity aimed to provide essential assistance to displaced communities, support post-disaster medical services, and strengthen the operation of the public kitchen through cross-sector collaboration involving Sai volunteers, non-bhakta donors from the general public, Persit women (wives of TNI personnel), and the Indonesian Army unit Yonif 111 Karma Bhakti.
Upon the team’s arrival on 10 December 2025, a field assessment was conducted at the evacuation site. Several displaced mothers were found resting directly on the mosque floor without proper bedding. As an immediate response, SSSGC Indonesia distributed sleeping mats to ensure more dignified and safer rest conditions. On the same day, SSSGC Indonesia also distributed 300 boxes of biryani rice, generously donated by the owner of a Lebanese restaurant. The food distribution was carried out in a coordinated and targeted manner to TNI personnel, patients at the military health post, evacuees at Masjid Al-Ikhlas, and several other evacuation points around Kuala Simpang.
In the afternoon, activities continued with the preparation of the public kitchen in collaboration with Persit women. The cooking process was carried out through collective effort, strengthening coordination and solidarity. The main menu prepared consisted of sautéed chayote squash, egg curry, and fried tempeh for the following day’s meals.
On 11 December 2025, the first full day of operations, the SSSGC disaster relief team distributed 100 meal packs and bread to affected residents along the Tamiang–Kuala Simpang route while conducting field coordination. On the same day, chicken rendang was transported from Medan as part of preparations for the Friday Blessing program. All surplus meals from midday distribution were redistributed to TNI personnel and volunteers at the TNI post, ensuring optimal use of resources without wastage.
The peak of the activity took place on 12 December 2025 through the Friday Blessing program, during which meals were distributed to approximately 500 worshippers at Masjid Al-Ikhlas and an additional ±250 beneficiaries, including children, women, and TNI personnel. Distribution proceeded in an orderly and smooth manner with full support from the TNI and volunteers.
Beyond food assistance, SSSGC Indonesia supported the sustainability of the public kitchen by procuring nutritious food supplies from the central market and donating three complete gas stove sets with 3 kg gas cylinders and kitchen equipment. Personal necessities such as prayer garments, dresses, and sarongs were also distributed to displaced families.
In the area of health services, the TNI Polyclinic treated approximately ±250 patients per day suffering from various post-flood conditions. SSSGC Indonesia also supplemented essential medicines from the previous phase to ensure continuity of medical services.
The entire series of activities reflects the principle of “Love All, Serve All,” implemented through harmonious collaboration between SSSGC Indonesia, Yonif 111 Karma Bhakti, volunteers, and the wider community, with the shared purpose of easing the burden of those affected by the disaster.
